Manually add hiking maps

In addition to background maps being loaded from online services, TrailRunner can also display scanned maps. As scanned maps are not calibrated to the GPS coordinate system, you need to follow these steps to calibrate the map.

Although map.jpg now is inside the document, it is misaligned. Therefore you now must scale, rotate and position map.jpg to mostly match with some visual clues you see in map.jpg and in the background map. visual clues can be rivers and broad streets. Depending on the area, test which background map source suits best for this overlay.

With the selected map.jpg you'll notice anchor points in each corner and at each side to scale the map. A round anchor point is available in the middle of the map to rotate map.

To see both, the background map and the manually map, set the transparency of your manually added map, for that the background map shines through:

You can always zoom in using ⌘ + to see hight details of the overlay and ⌘ - to return to the overview for better alignment. Zooming zooms in on the last point you've clicked, so if a detail interest you, just click there first before you zoom in. Also you can use the arrow keys to move the selected map into any direction.

When the alignment fits, use the layers section in document settings. The map is now located inside this document. To make the map appear in all documents of this region move the map into one of the layers above the layer "Unknown" by clicking the curved arrow button left to the layer. You might first need to unlock the layer by clicking on the lock symbol. The eye symbol makes a layer content invisible.

Aligning grid tiles
if you have scanned several map tiles, you can align and adjust the map tiles using the segment alignment and the brightness slider.
